How much and why is chocolate good for the skin?
Chocolate (meaning dark chocolate) has many health benefits. They give you healthy, radiant and flawless skin.
Dark chocolate contains catechins, polyphenols and flavanols, which make chocolate a powerful antioxidant. Bitter chocolate is made from cocoa extract, which contains many antioxidants.
Protects your skin from sun damage. The flavanols in chocolate not only protect your skin from harmful UV rays, but also improve your skin’s hydration level and increase blood flow.
Bitter chocolate helps you fight stress. Stress is a major cause of collagen breakdown and wrinkles, and one study found that cocoa helps lower stress hormone levels.
Cocoa extract can also treat the symptoms of atopic dermatitis. A study by researchers at Seoul National University and the University of Massachusetts found that polyphenols found in cocoa reduced skin inflammation and treated the symptoms of other allergies.
